The purpose of the workshop lead by Dr. Claudia García-Minguillán Torres (Universitat de Barcelona & Fellow of the Core Research Area Trans-Mediterranean Entanglements at the University of Graz) is to analyze literary (eco-)narratives about climate or natural catastrophes during the early modern age. With a particular focus on the Mediterranean regions of Romance culture, the workshop aims to explore how climatic and natural events—such as storms, earthquakes, floods, and their consequences, such as disease, famine, and extreme situations that led to social and political crises— were described and represented.
